How to replace wiper blades

Streaks, chattering or skipping mean it's time for new blades. Most cars use different lengths for the driver and passenger sides.

What you need

  • Two wiper blades in the right lengths for your car

Steps

  1. Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield. Put a towel on the glass in case the arm snaps back.
  2. Press the release tab where the blade meets the arm and slide the old blade off the hook.
  3. Slide the new blade onto the hook until it clicks.
  4. Lower the arm gently and repeat on the other side.
  5. Test them with washer fluid.
Tips: Replace blades every 6–12 months, and before winter in snowy areas.
